Department of Population Studies

Established in 1993, the Department of Population Studies at Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati University, Ajmer, is a premier center for interdisciplinary learning in demography and social development. It integrates sociology, economics, and public health to analyze critical trends like fertility, mortality, migration, and urbanization.

The department offers two specialized postgraduate programs:

• M.A. in Population Studies - Focuses on demographic techniques, statistical methods, and policy formulation.
• Master of Social Work (MSW) - Prepares professionals for community development through a blend of classroom study and practical fieldwork with NGOs and government agencies.

Beyond academics, the department emphasizes research and social responsibility. Faculty guide students in analyzing contemporary issues such as reproductive health, gender equality, and ageing. Through extension activities and community-based initiatives, the department contributes to policy discussions on social justice and population management.
